Food and Wine Pairings – Champagne

Whether it’s a sparkler from France (i.e. Champagne legally speaking) or a Sparkling Wine (i.e. anything outside of France, Italy or Spain), a Cava (Spanish bubbly), or a Prosecco (Italy’s bubbly stuff) people seem to associate it with either celebrating a happy occasion or a drink for those that are fortunate enough to splurge on luxuries.  Time honored traditions and “Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous” caviar eating dreams are great, but what about drinking this bubbly beverage on any occasion?

What are some foods that pair really well with Sparklers?

Here are my recommendations:

1.)    Salty snack foods like chips, crackers, nuts, popcorn, and salsa.  Any salty appetizer food goes well with the bubbly stuff.

2.)    Fried Foods like KFC chicken, egg rolls, French fries, calamari, fish will do it.

3.)    Chinese take-out.

4.)    Sushi.

5.)    Creamy sauces like Knorr’s hollandaise sauce, over pork or chicken is good.

6.)    Mushrooms, and of course the hoity toity caviar are certainly friends.

7.)    Believe it or not, eggs and Champagne really go well together.  Why do you think its served at brunch?

8.)    Seafood of all kinds with a creamy artery clogging sauce also taste good with the bubbly.

So there you have it.  Whether you’ve got the bucks for the high end stuff or just a few bucks left over after paying the rent, experimenting and trying different types of bubbly from different places can be fun any time.

Enjoy!
