Wine Review – 2008 Cono Sur Riesling
I’m thinking about starting a Riesling fan club. Why? Because every one that I’ve tasted so far this year has been extremely good. The 2007 Jekel Riesling that we reviewed on Febuary 26th was a monster but the others that I’ve tried have not been too far behind. The 2008 Cono Sur is another terrific Riesling. We paired this wine with a spicy southwestern style chicken dish and this Riesling was explosive. It has intense citrus flavors and a terrific zesty, dry finish. This was our second reviewed wine from Cono Sur. You may recall, our review of their Sauvignon Blanc earlier this year – we liked that wine a lot too. But this Riesling is just downright awesome for the money. It’s not quite a 4 Star wine, but it comes pretty close! The 2008 Cono Sur Riesling is a great value-priced Riesling. I look forward to trying the other wines that Cono Sur has to offer.

I absolutely love this wine, and the fact that it comes from the south of Chile. I read in their site (http://www.conosur.com I think) that they were the first winery in the world to produce Riesling there… Wow, huh? I really enjoyed this wine's refreshing mouth!
Cocho,
Thank you for your comment. Glad to hear that you found this gem of a wine just as delicious. I'm not sure if Cono Sur was the first ever Chilean produced Riesling – Chilean Riesling goes back to the 1930's maybe even further back. I have heard that Cono Sur was the first to make "biodynamic", or organic, Chilean Riesling.
Cheers!
