Cheese and Wine – Best Friends Forever
If you’re anything like us, you love to snack on cheese while drinking wine. But not all types of cheese and wine like to mingle with one another.
Here are a few cheese and wine BFF’s:
1.) Cheeses like Spanish Manchego, Parmigiano-Reggiano, Dry Jack, and Cheddar Cheeses seem to prefer brawny, big, red-heads like Cabernet Sauvignon, French Bordeaux, Spanish Tempranillo, Malbec, and Italians like Barolo.
2.) Cheeses like Goat, Mozzarella, Feta, and other soft fresh cheeses get along well with white wines such as Pinot Grigio, Sauvignon Blanc, and Argentinean Torrontes. Red wines like Beaujolais, Cabernet Franc and Italians, like Dolcetto and Chianti, mingle well in this party. The bubbly stuff is pretty chummy with these types of cheeses, too.
3.) Soft and gooey cheeses like Brie and Camembert prefer to hang out with the French. They’re BFF’s with French Champagne, French Chardonnay, French Sauvignon Blanc, French Sancerre… all things French is how they prefer it.
4.) The stinky cheeses like Limburger, Swiss, and Munster like the same sort of reds that Spanish Manchego and Italian Parmesan Cheese seem to like. (See 1)
5.) The blue moldy cheeses like Roquefort, Blue, Stilton, and Gorgonzola prefer to get together with French red Bordeaux and Italian Barolo. If you like it sweet, a French Sauterne loves to be with moldy cheeses, too! If you really like it sweet, try a port wine with the moldy and stinky stuff.
Bon Appetit!
